The United States Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) is a large underground expansion of the Capitol complex, accommodating up to 4,000 tourists and providing additional space for Congress. Located below the East Front of the Capitol, it features 580,000 square feet across three floors. The CVC includes meeting rooms and a 450-seat Congressional Auditorium for congressional use. It officially opened on December 2, 2008, coinciding with the 145th anniversary of the Statue of Freedom's placement atop the Capitol dome.
